Project Evaluation
Research Foundations
Findings from the evaluation of the Possibilities Project showed that:
Children's Interests
- Each project participant had, on average, 26 different interests.
- More often than not, individual children had unique, very special interests.
Recreation and Leisure Activities
- Project participants were involved in more than 500 different recreation and leisure activities based on their interests.
- The recreation and leisure activities used as a context of interest expression were highly individualized.
Child and Parent Benefits
- Child participation in interest-based recreation and leisure activities was associated with more positive
child social and emotional behavior compared to participation in non interest-based activities.
- Child participation in interest-based activities was associated with more positive reports of
parent enjoyment.
A forthcoming monograph by C.J. Dunst and D. Snyder includes the full evaluation of the Possibilities Project.
